Heeum / The Museum of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan

It’s the activity space for memorizing the history of pain suffered by Japanese Military Sexual Slavery and solving the issues of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery. Furthermore, it’s the ‘practicing museum’ which make efforts to create society to respect peace and women’s rights by solving the issues.

<Daegu Citizen Forum for Halmuni> which began in 1997 organized the promotion committee for building <Heeum / the Museum of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan> for peace and human rights in 2009 based on the fast activities.

By 2010, the late (故) Kim, Sunak donated about 50,000,000 won to it with a will of ‘please do not forget me even after my death’ and other grandmothers had the will of us so that funds for building the museum were raised.

Daegu Citizen Forum for Halmuni continued to develop various pan-national campaigns for raising the funds for building the museum and many citizens had the will of us. Local artists and experts in various fields participated in it through talent donation.

Many people participated in building the museum through ‘Heeum (Blooming Their Hopes with You)’, the brand launched by the Daegu Citizen Forum for Halmuni in 2012. Especially, many teenagers delivered their profits from group purchase of Heeum products to us by participating in it and furthermore, actively participated in the campaigns for solving the issues.

Heeum / The Museum of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan was opened in the 5th of December. 2015 as the construction of the museum was promoted by the Daegu Citizen Forum for Halmuni’s efforts and different citizens’ support and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Daegu Metropolitan City, and Jung-gu in Daegu Metropolitan City participated in support like this.
